Roofs and asbestos in the ACT

Replacing a whole roof needs building approval. Replacing a roof tile doesn't.
Homes built or renovated between 1950 and 1985 are likely to contain asbestos somewhere.
In the ACT, asbestos can only be removed by a licensed removalist, unlike other states that let homeowners remove up to 10 m².
